An excerpt …
A collection of poems from the book THE PLACE WHERE WE LIVE by Ken Bradbury.
(MR. LINCOLN'S HORSE)
Mr. Lincoln had a hat. (In fact, he’s famous for it.)
Mr. Lincoln had a coat. (And pictures show he wore it.)
Mr. Lincoln had wife and four fine strapping boys.
Yes, many things are known about this man from Illinois.
But in all the books and movies (And the Internet, of course)
do you ever read a single thing about Abe Lincoln’s horse?
(THESE PEOPLE AT MY DOOR)
I wonder sometimes … in my head … lying there upon my bed
as noises of the wind all roar and leaves start clicking at my door.
That sound … that rustle … barely heard
a branch? A leaf? A mouse? A bird?
Just tap-tap-tapping without words … Something at my door.
