An excerpt …
A collection of poems from the book THE PLACE WHERE WE LIVE by Ken Bradbury.
(STOPPED BY A TRAIN)
Racing ‘cross town … you’re late for the game
when your auto gets suddenly stopped by a train.
I don’t mean you hit it, you simply must stop
as the train blocks the tracks and it has the road blocked.
You fuss and you fume, ‘cause there’s no turning back.
This slow-moving train’s thrown your game off the track!
Now you’ve got a choice as you sit there and wail
as the train inches by at the pace of a snail.
(AN UN-FORTUNATE NAME)
The young man’s name was Franklin Bank (He had his Mom and Dad to thank)
And from his birth his claim to fame was cause for mirth caused by his name.
“Oh look, here comes the bank!” they chimed, and then they’d stuff his ears with dimes.
